APTE (A Place to Eat)…. is the place to be at the moment for breakfast or lunch. Make sure you get there early for breakfast on the weekends though as they don’t take bookings (and obviously the secret is out and the word has spread)… or come 9.30/10am you’ll be queuing out the door and left waiting a while for a table!
APTE gets quite a few kid-friendly ticks. There are plenty of highchairs, big boxes of cool toys and books to play with, a kid’s size breakfast on the menu for $6.90 (one egg, organic toast and bacon), half size milkshakes in cute plastic tumblers, 50c Babycino’s, too many tempting sweet things on display with cookies, cupcakes and slices the little ones will love, room for prams both inside and out and a convenient customer car-park right out the back. No change table though but the loos are very spacious. And another good sign when we were there… it was full of other families.
The service was pretty good and the staff were plentiful. One of our waitress’s was super friendly, sweet and chatty, however the other a little more aloof and not as service oriented. The service was getting a bit slow towards the end and our last round of coffees took quite a while, however kind of understandable as they were so under the pump. All the more reason to get there earlier for breakfast.
There is a beautiful large, sheltered and shady courtyard with plenty of tables and room for prams. Inside there are also a few larger, communal tables which are a good size for families and groups.
For breakky or brunch you can enjoy eggs with bacon or salmon with organic toast and all kinds of sides including fetta, house made tomato relish and pea, corn and fetta fritters as well as all the usual suspects. There’s also ricotta hotcakes, home made muesli, fresh fruit salad and toasted banana and coconut bread. And for lunch there is a selection of pides, sandwiches, salads and pasta.
APTE is definitely worth a visit, but as we’ve already mentioned, getting their early for breakky on weekends is a must. But we hear around the traps that lunch is no where near as busy, so maybe have a leisurely morning at home then head down for a bite after the little ones have woken from their morning nap. Either way, I am sure you will enjoy!
