Initially, I was a bit worried about taking my babycino spilling kids somewhere so upmarket, however, after multiple rave reviews, I built up the courage and off we went. Billy Kart lived up to its many recommendations, the food was delicious and while, yes, we did spill a babycino – the staff were very understanding.
Billy Kart is the kind of place you want to take your foodie loving friends to. It’s delicious and a little bit different. It’s bright and open with a great sleek design. It might not immediately appear to be a ‘kid friendly’ cafe, but the minute we sat down the kids were given highchairs and a colouring page that doubled as a menu. Our drinks order was promptly taken, and as it was, unfortunately, a little too early for wine, I ordered a coffee. It was great.
With the kids occupied with colouring in, and waiting on that babycino (to spill), we perused the menu. Celebrity Chef Ben O’Donoghue has created a relaxed menu using fresh and local produce with a creative twist. The favourites are here – buttermilk pancakes, crispy corn fritters and house made crumpets. Or if you’re after something a little different, how about the Aussie Asian eggs with skull island tiger prawn, bacon, chilli and shizu cress.
When the babycinos arrived, with smarties on the side, much to the delight of the children, they were quickly gobbled up (and there was that minor spilling incident). BillyKart West End is the second edition of Ben’s Billy Kart restaurants. Head to the original in Annerley, which has the added bonus of a little playground across the road – perfect for the kids to run off some of that excess energy.
