What a great café and in such an unexpected location. Bunnings Balgowlah café is located on the top floor, next to the Garden centre and is a great place for parents to come and grab a bite to eat and coffee whilst they watch little ones play in the soft play outside. The do say the soft play is for children 4+, however younger children would also enjoy under adult supervision.
Bunnings offers free activities for children during the school holidays and weekends. All these activities are completely free and all artwork can be taken home.
The food at the café is all on display at the counter however I was assured it is all brought in fresh daily. Apparently the cakes, which all looked delicious, are supplied by the same people who supply The Hilton! Pies and sausage rolls are supplied by Herbert Adams and other options included sandwiches and toasties, wraps, cheese and crackers, fruit salad, soups and banana bread. There is a good range of gourmet teas by Tea Drop and the coffee is Mocopan, a Melbourne based roaster.
Whilst there is no kids menu, most items can be shared with adults. Children can be entertained by either the softplay or the free pencil packs and colouring that can be taken home too.
Bunnings is a relaxed and cost effective place to bring the family for lunch or brunch. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to give you that proper café experience you wouldn’t expect at a Bunnings café.
