Carousel Cafe is a great place to come with the family for a nice brunch or lunch by the lake, especially in the warmer months. There is lots of space lake-side to run and play, swans and ducks to feed and chase, and of course the track around the lake to walk, ride, rollerblade, skate, scoot or push the pram.
The clientele is an eclectic mix of lycra clad cyclists and rollerbladers, young couples with bubba’s in bugaboo’s, families with little ones on scooters, and groups of attractive sporty women doing coffee after their morning walk around the lake (very Sex and the City!).
Carousel Cafe definitely provides for families. There is plenty of space for prams both inside and out on the deck, plenty of highchairs, a spacious toilet with change table, and of course Baby-cino’s – one of the best looking ones I have seen… swirled high, lots of froth, a decent size and with a giant marshmallow on the side.
There is no dedicated kid’s menu, however many of the items on the menu would be suitable for little ones – for breakfast they could enjoy avocado on rye toast, a huge bowl of healthy fruit salad and yoghurt, bircher muesli, yummy banana bread, or a Croque Monsieur which was really just a glammed-up toasted ham and cheese sanga… still tasty though, my hubby enjoyed it.
For lunch there are lots of good-looking pre-made pides and paninis on display in the glass cabinet, as well as salads, burgers, bruschetta and more. The food was really nice and fresh and you could tell they use quality ingredients. The prices are probably a little bit more than other cafes, and the serves (especially the breakfast sides) were a bit on the small side.
There is a sweet little assortment at the counter of cakes, muffins, and jars of biscuits – lots of nice little treats to go with your coffee and baby-cino, after your walk by the lake.
The staff here were pretty friendly and welcoming, and seem very used to serving families and little ones.
