The Castle Hill RSL has long been a favourite with mothers groups and families and for good reason. The RSL has set up the café & casual dining restaurant to open out onto a lovely covered area that is further extended by shade sails. All of this is right beside the fenced children’s play equipment – food, drinks, playground and shade…it ticks a lot of parents boxes! Along with the playground there is also an astro turf area for kids to make up their own games and have some fun running around. This really is an RSL where families and locals are welcomed and encouraged to come along and enjoy all of the facilities in a very relaxed environment.
Just remember that it is an RSL and if you live within a 5km radius you will need to either become a member or have a member sign you in. But, there are benefits of being a member, like reduced prices on all food and beverage, as well as a voucher every year for your birthday.
The café is open from 10am and serves coffee, milkshakes, a great range of sandwiches, wraps (from $8.50) and salads (10.50). They also have some limited hot snacks like salt & pepper squid ($9.50), hot chips, pies and sausage rolls ($5.00). Make sure you save room for cake! The display cabinet is bursting with cakes, tortes, tarts and cookies. The Courtyard Restaurant serving more substantial meals opens for lunch from 12noon and for dinner from 5.30pm.
They have a great range of main meals like Burgers (from $19.00) served with chips, Schnitzel ($21.00) Linguine with lemon and garlic prawns ($24.50), as well as fish, a variety of steaks and a separate pizzeria (open for dinner Wed – Sat and all day Sunday).
Kids are well taken care of with all meals around $10.00 including Mac and cheese, cheeseburger and chips, spag bol, and chicken salad. As a bonus, all kids meals come with a slushie or an ice cream! (and chips can be substituted for mashed potato, vegies or salad on any kids meal). There is also a fantastic Yum Cha & Chinese restaurant and the Rib Factory.
Regular Kids Day is Tuesday 11am – 2pm in the Courtyard where there is also a face painter and a clown. But check the website for other special kids days during school holidays, Christmas season and other concerts like Playschool.
The Castle Hill RSL really does cater well for families in that it allows for a relaxed vibe, the kids can play and there is a great variety of food and beverage choices at reasonable prices.
