Coal Loader Cafe in Waverton really is one of those hidden gems. The kind of place only locals know about and they like to keep it that way (sorry guys!). Perched at the end of Balls Head in Waverton with stunning harbour views, walks and plenty of grass this cafe is perfect for dining with the whole family. Balls Head Reserve adjoins the cafe and makes for some beautiful walks and picnic spots.
The cafe itself offers dining inside and out with most outdoor tables occupied by dog owners or families with young children. The atmosphere is friendly and the simple menu aims to please. The staff were very accommodating and even though it was a very busy Saturday morning when we visited, they were able to do cheese fingers with a poached egg for Miss 3 (there is no kids menu).
For breakfast, choose from some divine baked goods or their simple menu which includes porridge, eggs, smashed avocado and plenty of sides! Coal Loader aims to source the majority of their produce locally and sustainably. Further, they live sustainably by composting all food waste on site.
Remember they also have some great takeaway options for those with little ones who can’t sit still for long or would like to explore the beautiful Reserve.
