Humming Cafe is one of the cafes you wish you knew about earlier. The decor is gorgeous, the food amazing and the staff friendly. Its situated in a courtyard at the back of a strip of shops on Eastern Valley Way and it can be hard to find so look out for the 1939 bicycle out the front. Parking is available under and behind the shops and the driveway entry is actually in the middle of the shops – a bit of a tricky one.
The cafe is great for little ones as it is positioned at the back of the shops and away from the busy road. The courtyard is great for running and playing. The owner, Tomo, even provides nutritious meals to the local Rudoph Steiner school in Castle Cove. Whilst there is no children’s menu, the options are limitless for them. The owners are Japanese and make authentic and delicious sushi to order from $2.
Tomo is passionate about providing organic bread to his customers and it is brought straight from the farm on a Sunday evening. His signature dish is the french inspired Cocotto with spinach, tomato, baked brand and chorizo. Breakfast is available all day as well as soups, salads, sandwiches and sushi for lunch. Everything is reasonably priced and made fresh on site. They even roast their own granola and if you like it you can purchase a bag to take home.
Tomo swears by no crush enzymes in his juices which are great for detoxing. I tried the carrot, apple, ginger and lemon which was delicious.
