Central Park is Sydney’s newest ‘urban village’ and is located opposite UTS in Chippendale, near Central Station. Here you can live, work, shop and dine! Ippudo is widely acclaimed to have some of the best Ramen in Sydney and apparently the lines outside their flagship Westfield Sydney store are legendary.
Ramen noodle soup is also incredibly filling and their location opposite UTS is a good move as there are plenty of hungry Uni students around. Upon entering any Ippudo restaurant, you will immediately be made to feel welcome with a chorus of greetings from staff. The dark wood interiors, Japanese motifs and communal tables all enhance its fun vibe. Apparently the key to enjoying the Ramen is sound (ie. ‘the slurp’)! Which will go against all the table manners you may teach your children! The Japanese call the sip, slurp and enjoyment of Ramen ‘zuzutto’. Go on – you know you want to:)
The Ramen menu is extensive and was quite confusing for a novice so just ask one of the friendly waiters to explain it to you. Once you have chosen your Ramen, you can even choose to add extra noodles or a variety of toppings. Their most popular being their flavoured egg or ‘Nitamago’ ($2). Their pork buns are extremely popular but were unfortunately not available when we visited.
The menu encourages sharing amongst families and there is certainly plenty of noodles to go around in every serve. The dining precinct’s central courtyard is fantastic for active toddlers. Overall, Ippudo Central Park is a great option for families. Try and arrive for an early dinner to avoid queues.
