Laurent is known for its selection of French pastries and cakes which includes chocolate and almond croissants, apricot or cherry danishes, custard filled doughnuts, escargot, brioche, (brightly coloured delicate macaroons which are flavour of the month thanks to Masterchef), mille feulle and icing sugar dusted fruit mince pies for Christmas.
Laurent in East Melbourne seems to be a popular choice for local Yummy’s Mummys during the week, as there are always lots of prams, babies and toddlers (along with business suits doing meetings over coffee too). It is also just a hop skip and a jump away from the library, so is a great pit-stop after storytime.
There aren’t any highchairs, change tables or kids menus, however it is spacious enough for prams, their are comfy leather armchairs and bench seats, the disabled toilet is big enough to wheel the pram in if you need to change a nappy, the service is fast and friendly, and there are lots of tasty little treats that the little ones would love to accompany their baby-cino’s or hot chocolate.
As a busy Mum on the run, you can also pick up a french stick for lunch, a loaf of their yummy pain au raisin for breakfast, a quiche for tea, a jar of Bonne Maman jam or a whole tea cake to take to your mother’s group morning tea.
East Melbourne is our Local Laurent, however we also often visit South Yarra, Albert Park and Camberwell as well, and they are all consistent in their set-up, service and vibe, and all seem to be just as equally popular with the stroller set.
