American smokehouse meets a fusion of Latin American and Asian cuisines at Papi Chulo in Manly.
It is Merivale’s first eatery on the Northside and they have perfected the relaxed seaside chic vibe again here. Huge windows overlooking the water allow for an abundance of natural light to pour in during the day. Inside you will find cosy booth seating, high benches, white washed walls and a huge art deco curved bar.
The Nestling Menu is in collaboration with Manly Sea Life Sanctuary with $1 from each dish going to the charity that protects the local Little Penguin community. Kids mains are all $12 and there are five options to choose from: Quarter Roast Chicken Dinner with gravy; Grilled Barramundi Fillet; Papi Cheese Burger with chips; Cheese Quesadilla with sour cream and guacamole; and Pulled Pork Soft Taco with coleslaw. This is no typical kids menu! To finish, Papi’s chocolate sundae with gooey fudge and cookie crumble will be messily devoured by any child ($7). Bring your bibs!
The BBQ Meat Platter ($86) is their signature dish. Meats are marinated over wood for at least 6 hours to create that intense smoky BBQ flavour. The platter is perfect for sharing between a group of 4 with sides or in our case the 2 men easily finished this off themselves. Most of the meat is smothered in BBQ sauce however the brisket is served plain and is juicy enough without sauce. A handful of bap rolls is the perfect complement to the protein overload. Wash this down with a crisp white wine for a perfect meal.
Bookings are essential on the weekends and its best to get in early when dining with the little ones. Better still combine your lunch or dinner with a visit to Manly Sea Life Sanctuary.
