When we arrived at Picnic, we were warmly greeted and asked if we wanted a highchair for the little one, and then happily told that “Kids are our priority here”. That’s a pretty good sign that this is a kid-friendly cafe!
Picnic is very bright and light, and happy and warm. It has gorgeous big colourful pieces of art on the walls that are for sale. It feels very relaxed as soon as you walk in the door, especially as there were a couple of strollers and a kids scooter parked at the entrance, and there were a number of families already seated at other tables. The staff were all very chilled out and friendly and wear fabulous sunshine yellow aprons that add to the overall warmth of the place.
The breakfast menu here is very good and they offer an excellent (or should I say egg-sellent) value for money brekky deal – $20 for eggs, 3 sides of your choice, French toast and a coffee. They have a really good selection of sides with a few different additions to the standard breakfast sides – bacon, chorizo, ham, mushrooms, roasted tomato, baby spinach, asparagus, home made hash browns, tuscan baked beans and smoked atlantic salmon. Yum! For those not wanting a big eggy breakfast, hey also offer organic toasted muesli with yoghurt and fruit compote and Bircher muesli. They are open for lunch as well and are licensed, so you can kick back and relax with a nice glass of vino with your toasted Turkish Pide, Premium Beef Burger or Baked Vegetable Lasagne.
After your meal at Picnic, there are lots of shops along Toorak Rd that may tickle your fancy – Noah’s Aeroplane and Bebe are a couple of my favourites and there are also plenty of Maternity shops too.
