Crayon friendly kids menu’s and super friendly staff make this cafe a relaxed and welcoming visit. A small dedicated play area on the first floor also creates an ideal coffee meet up for parents with young toddlers.
Plum Tucker has quickly become a favourite with the Red Hill locals since it opened under husband and wife/chef team Matt & Kate. Having littlies of their own, they’ve made sure to incorporate a family friendly environment into the cafe. The staff are super friendly and the kids are welcomed with coloring-in paper menus and crayons. Well behaved 4 legged ‘furry kids’ are also made to feel welcome at the footpath tables with water bowls and lead attachments, so this makes for a great cafe to visit with the whole family.
The kid’s menu offers several simple breakfast choices for fussy kids and a lunchtime sandwich pack – with the meals ranging from $5 – $10. Seasonal menus keep things constantly creative and the café offers plenty of vegan and gluten free options in the current menu, as well as paleo meals. The prices range from $12 – $20 and the café consciously sources local and ethically farmed products, with meat menu items supplied by another popular local, Meat at Billy’s.
There is a dedicated play area on the first floor which is also lowly gated – with soft faux grass, blocks and a cute little tent that offers younger children a fun getaway so that parents can enjoy a small moment of quietness at the table. The upstairs room can also be hired for kids parties – with Plum Tucker offering catered party packages and a specialty birthday cake, which they bake and create themselves. Access to this area is via stairs only, so no prams up here. But the café’s main area is easily accessible and has an open outdoor atmosphere with sweet farmhouse tables and eclectic timber chairs, it’s a nice relaxing vibe here.
This cafe can become quite busy for weekend breakfasts, with street parking highly contested for – but there are several onsite car parks hidden behind the building that can be accessed from the driveway on Waterworks Road.
Plum Tucker also hosts Story-time Tuesdays from 10am as free entertainment and crafts to keep the littlies occupied – but be sure to call beforehand if you’re visiting just for this event.
