One of the most instagrammed food in Sydney! The food and the surroundings here are seriously pretty. Think ‘The Grounds’ Alexandria with a more summery feel next to the beach! The clientele is a blend of ‘ladies who lunch’, parents with babies and toddlers and the ‘young and trendy’.
Beautiful flowers, fruit and vegetables frame the entrance. It is so trendy that you will most likely find yourself queuing for a table and then again to order your food, even during the week. Most of the seating is outdoors on the deck and covered with umbrellas. Heaters and blankets are on offer during winter. Long white wooden tables, deck chairs and stools all add the beach feel of the café. Even little touches such as the chocolate anchors on cappuccinos add to the relaxed feel of the place.
The experience and atmosphere at the Boathouse is sea-side casual however the prices are on the expensive side, as you would expect in Balmoral. There is no kid’s menu but half portions of any menu items are available. Breakfast is served until noon and prices range from $9 for toast to $23 for ‘Smoked Salmon Eggs’. For the super health conscious they offer ‘Steel Cut Oats’ with quince, cane sugar and warm milk; ‘Raw Muesli’ with fresh fruit, coconut oats and almond yoghurt or ‘Quinoa Bircher’ with yoghurt, grated apple, fresh dates and toasted nuts.
Lunch is from 12 – 3pm and in keeping with its beach location, offers plenty seafood. Their version of fish and chips, ‘Sam’s Paddock Steak Sandwich’ and their ‘Seared Kingfish Carpaccio’.
All food is also available takeaway if you want to grab a coffee and a muffin or bacon and egg roll and head to the playground with the kids. They offer roomy change facilities and lots of boats for children to ogle. Balmoral Boat Hire is still running out the back of the café if you fancy some time out on the water.
The Boathouse is fantastic for that special brunch with the family or to show off the best of Sydney to guests. When the sun is shining and the boats are shimmering, it doesn’t get much better than this!
