The Boathouse

A very family friendly option in the West, located on the banks of the Maribyrnong river. Only a stones throw from the bike track, oval and playground.

The Boathouse, which is owned by loveable Masterchef judge Gary Mehigan, is located on the banks of the Maribyrnong river. There is a bike and walking track along the river perfect for a stroll with the pram, a great playground for the kids and ample parking.

It states on their website that it is a family restaurant. And that it definitely is! It’s very spacious, with plenty of room for prams and a lovely large deck area looking over the river. There are big tables, as well as cosy bench seats with lots of cushions and the floor is polished concrete. There is even a big stone fireplace too. There are highchairs en masse – again the old faithful white plastic Ikea ones and there is also a change table located in the disabled toilet.

The Boathouse pretty much already has all the kid-friendly ticks, but to top it all off they also have a special kid’s menu’s for breakfast as well as lunch/dinner. But what makes the menu even more special is that it is also a colouring-in competition with a weekly prize such as a $20 Toys R Us voucher. This is such a simple idea but a very good one, as it gives the kids an activity to do whilst they are waiting for their food – means you can enjoy your latte too.

The kids breakfast menu is a mini version of the normal menu and includes pancakes with maple syrup, grilled cheese on toast, eggs on toast with the option of bacon, tomato and mushrooms as extras, toast and Coco Pops.

For lunch or dinner there are familiar favourites such as margarita pizza, fish and chips, cheese burger and fries, penne bolognese and chicken nuggets and chips. And for dessert ice cream sundaes, jelly, chocolate mousse and Paddle Pops. They also offer half size milkshakes for the kids for only $2.50.

And if you are pizza lovers like us, then you must head there for tea, as they were voted the Best Pizza in Melbourne recently.
