The Rocks is awash with cafes that are overpriced and target the tourist market. However those ‘in the know’ have found a hidden treasure – The Fine Food Store. It is one of the best locations for coffee, gourmet products and sandwiches in The Rocks. I find it slightly misplaced at the end of a touristy arcade however once you come inside it is an oasis where you can even find a little corner by yourself to relax. If you are in Circular Quay with the little ones or enjoying The Rocks Market on the weekend, this is the place to come.
For breakfast, they divide their menu between light and hearty options. You can’t go past the watermelon and feta salad or ricotta and avo on toast for a healthy breakfast. Little ones will love the ham and cheese toastie, made with ham off the bone. For your more hearty meal, there are plenty of egg-based dishes such as Middle Eastern inspired Shakshuka, croque sir (poached eggs, prosciutto and cheese with garlic aioli) and poached free range eggs. Breakfast is available all day on weekends and until 12pm on weekdays.
For lunch, think gourmet sandwiches, hearty salads and hot mains such as lamb chorizo sausage rolls and chilli con carne. They even do roasts on a Friday. Head to The Fine Food Store for some robust coffee with sweet caramel undertones and gourmet food. An oasis in The Rocks.
