The Fish Shop claims that ‘fish are friends and food’ and they aim to be sustainable as possible in their approach to sourcing fish. They only use local produce and never fish that is endangered or in short supply! Thumbs up from us! Their wines are all Australian carefully sourced as organic and bio-dynamic. The atmosphere is so relaxed, you will feel you are on holiday in The Hamptons or Cape Cod in America. The walls are covered with nets, fishing lines, sea shells and old lanterns. The takeaway counter, complete with wooden paneling and frosted glass are fun.
They are open right through from 12-11pm every day expect Sunday (9pm) and their peak time for families is between 5pm-7pm. Pull up a stool at one of their balckboard covered benches and let little ones colour to their hearts content. Clip on high chairs for babies mean they are also up high and part of the action.
The most popular dish is the Fish ‘n’ Chips and the Fish Burger (both $19). As an entrée, the scallops with garlic butter are divine. If you really want to sample the best fish they have to offer, try the Fish Platter for two ($69). All kids meals are $13.50 and they serve a smaller portion of the Fish ‘n’ Chips, Fish Fingers, Spag Bol and Grilled Fish with Salad. This is all topped off with ice cream for $4.
The Fish Shop is a cool inner city eatery that you can also bring the children to. They will have a great time checking out the wall artifacts, drawing and eating in a lively atmosphere. Takeaway is also available.
