The last piece is surrounded by a neighbourhood of houses with bright coloured doors and manicured gardens. It’s loaded with families who appreciate something new and modern and they should be so lucky to call this place their ‘local’.
Even thought The Last Piece sits in Hawthorn Football Club’s ‘home’ and footy is it’s foundation, this is no kitchy footy hall of fame. In fact the only memorabilia you will see are the old metal stand seat numbers, cleverly embedded in the tables. The rest of the decor is fun, quirky, organic and clean… celebrating their Italian heritage with vintage pics hung on the middle wall.
Upon entering this place you know you’re going to be looked after, the hosts are young and professional with a game plan for success. As you’re shown to you’re table, there is plenty of room to manoeuvre your four-wheeler (or 3) through. There are no high chairs but no one seems to mind as there are plenty of cushioned bench type seats and some couches for your little ones to sit comfortably on your lap.
Breakfast is available all day and pizzas are made on some nights. The service was consistently friendly and on the ball which was great when dining out with kids. The only thing, in my opinion, that needs to be tackled to cater for the little eaters, is including some kid menu options.
So this is the answer for us S.E. mammas looking for a cool spot with great coffee, delicious meals and somewhere for the kids to burn some energy afterwards. The VFL oval has been left intact so, so for the last quarter, grab an irresistible take away coffee and let the kids loose!
