The North Spoon is a well lit, well located gourmet cafe, only a short walk from North Sydney train station. I dined with 3 other adults and my 1 year old, and the food was delicious, with quite a range of choices to please the gourmet inclined.
When requested menu items could easily be modified to cater for intolerances and dietary requirements (eg, vegetarian, gluten free), but a note to indicate this on the menu would’ve been appreciated. I ordered the lamb shanks (which I confirmed was gluten free fellow celiacs!), and my fellow guests ordered a beef burger with chips, the breakfast skillet, and spaghetti and meatballs (this one for my 1yo from the kids menu). Our lunches did not disappoint!
We also tried a couple of smoothies and lattes, including a dirty chai (a favourite combination of mine that is had to find!). All were refreshing and satisfying, and the use of quality Campos coffee did not go unnoticed.
High chairs were available, however staff were happy for my bub to sit in his “throne” (eg pram) for the meal. Notably the whole cafe is also, thankfully, pram accessible.
One very useful addition would be a change table in both bathrooms. Only the ladies one had one… This is a common problem for us mums who want men to deal with ones and twos from time to time!
Notably there is a small artificial turf area which could be handy for play time with supervised non-walking tots. Outdoor dining options here are limited but appreciated, especially as there is a view of the harbour bridge here!
Good service, great food, and stunning location. I happily would recommend this cafe to family and friends with children.
