Vertical Espresso opened in June 2015 in a tiny pocket of South Turramurra that has been crying out for a decent cafe. They are sister cafe to the smaller (and not as kid friendly) Replay at Turramurra station. Vertical don’t serve just any coffee, but single-origin beans roasted in Sydney. Parents can rejoice as they can sit in the courtyard out the back and watch the children play in the fenced playground just across the laneway.
The kids menu is fun and well designed. The six options range in price from $4 – $8.50. Choose from Nutella Rabbit ($4); Teddy Bear Toast ($4); Egg and toast ($5.90); Fruit Salad Boat ($6.90); Hawaiian Pizza ($8.50); and Quesadilla (Avo or Ham with cheese and a side of cucumber and strawberry – $8.50). We visited for lunch and the girls shared the pizza and quesadilla. Both were fresh and delicious. They were slightly miffed that the ‘toddlercino’ did not come with a marshmallow. For babies, they have a range of Whole Kids products inside including bars, popcorn and pouches (all $4).
The focus of the menu is on the all day breakfast. Simple options include a wholemeal crumpet with nutella ($6.90) and fruit toast with ricotta and honey ($6.90). A great vegetarian option is the smashed avo, haloumi and roasted tomato on organic sourdough ($15.90) – boiled eggs, bacon and smoked salmon can be added. The health conscious will love the Acai bowl – Hippie Lane RAWnola, banana, coconut and berries ($14.90). The three sandwich options are all $12.90. Choose from vegetarian, chicken or beef.
